Jasmin and Kalen tied the knot with a beautiful Red Barn Wedding, and what a day it was. I’ve photographed plenty of weddings across the Waikato, and The Red Barn is always a favourite. Rolling hills, big skies, and a barn that oozes character, it’s a recipe for a great party.
Jasmin & Kalen’s ceremony took place in the garden area, under the oak tree tucked in behind tall hedging. It felt private and cosy, almost like their own secret garden, with the greenery creating the perfect natural backdrop as they exchanged vows. After the “I do’s,” everyone spilled out onto the lawn with bubbles and laughter before moving into the barn for dinner and dancing.
I’ve been lucky enough to shoot at The Red Barn many times, but this was my very first chance to explore their secret grotto. It’s a pocket of native bush hidden away from the main action, and honestly, it feels a bit magical. Jasmin and Kalen disappeared there with their bridal party for some time out, and it turned out to be the dreamiest spot for photos, soft light, rock and fern surrounds, such a great zone to slip away to.
One of the best things about a Red Barn Wedding is how smoothly everything runs. The staff are legends, always friendly, always on top of the details, and somehow keeping the whole day ticking along without anyone noticing. It makes the atmosphere relaxed and easy, which is exactly what you want at a wedding.
And then there’s the food. Their in-house catering is seriously next level, like dining at a fine restaurant. Guests were raving about it, and they even sent me off with a little photographer’s snack pack before the photo session, the only venue that does this, and it never fails to make my day.
Jasmin and Kalen’s Red Barn Wedding was full of warmth, laughter, and little touches that made it truly theirs. It’s days like these that remind me why the Waikato is such an incredible place to celebrate love.
